Our little back yard farm

We started our lil back yard farm because of our 3 year old. She loves all animals including snakes and bugs (EWW)...Her dad Jeremy has always been involved in raising and selling bugs, snakes and different types of Reptiles so I guess this is where she gets it from..Mom on the other hands wants no part of snakes bugs or etc so I gave in and let them do chickens. Oh man what a joy...We love going to Chicken shows and to the small animal swap and shops they have in the area. I love talking to people that are all about chickens like we are..We have our lil chicken farm in the back yard and have silkies, white comet crosses, and orphingtons. We have an incubator  and have been doing our eggs and have made it up to 6, our first baby was born at 12:30 am on New Years so his/her name is of course Baby New Year. I am currently in nursing school so this site will take awhile to finish but I hope to work on it a little at a time, Anyway thanks for stopping by and check back for more pictures and futher updates

Announcement

We are proud to announce that all chicks we sell have had the first round of the Fowl Pox vaccine. This ensures your buying a healthy chick. I am sure you are wondering what Fowl Pox is. Fowl Pox is caused by a virus of the family Poxviridae and the genus Avipoxvirus. This is a woldwide disease that can be transmitted by direct or indirect contact, as well as through biting insects. It commonly affects poultry, such as chickens and turkeys; but also quail, canaries, pigeons, and many other species of birds have come down with this disease.

Fowl pox tends to spread slowly and a flock may be affected for several months. The course of the disease in the individual bird takes three to five weeks.

  • Affected young birds are retarded in growth.
  • Laying birds experience a drop in egg production.
  • Birds of all ages that have oral or respiratory system involvement have difficulty eating and breathing.  ( taken from http://www.avianweb.com/fowlpox.html)

Death can occur if your Chicken should get another illness while having Fowl Pox which is likely since a Chicken's immune system cant fight off diseases or infections while having Fowl Pox.

We went to a sale not long ago ( name withheld but i will say it WAS NOT at Tim and Susies)  and seen a seller with some birds that had Fowl Pox and started researching this. We decided that we take our birds to different sales and dont want to take a chance that our birds will come down with this disease. So when you buy a Chick from us you will have a piece of mind that the new member of your family will be healthy.
